A Short introduction to the Styles of Yoga taught by Esther
Vinyasa Yoga (going with the flow) is both physically and intellectually challenging
The structure of Vinyasa makes you go through an entire spectrum of postures. The series work like a combination lock; if you do the right poses in the right order the, mind and body automatically open up. The poses are generally in succession, creating heat in the body through movement or more slowly to increase stamina and perfect the alignment of the pose.
Is it suitable for me? This style of yoga is best suited for those students who are physically fit, as the practice requires a lot of stamina.
What to expect? This practice will create a lot of heat, which is great for aiding the detoxification process. A typical class will begin with a warm-
In Yin Yoga, poses are held for several minutes at a time in order to stretch the connective tissue around the joints. Research posits that our connective tissue may actually be the key to discovering subtle energy channels in the body (called nadis in yoga and meridians in Traditional Chinese Medicine). And despite having an advanced asana practice, which is supposed to help prepare the body for meditation, you may find yourself uncomfortable when beginning to attempt long, seated meditations. Yin Yoga directly addresses the demands that sitting still in one position for a long time places on the body by focusing on stretching connective tissue instead of muscle.
Is this a suitable practice for me? Yes, all levels even complete beginners will find Yin Yoga easy to follow. Although you may find it uncomfortable after several minutes holding a yin pose, you will have the time to come into and out of the posture during your session, allowing you through a regular practice to build up the amount of time your able to stay in one particular pose. This class is very popular for sports men and women, whatever your chosen sport it will help, and that’s a guarantee.
What to expect? We will generally go through a series of postures focusing on the joints in the pelvis, hips and lower spine that are naturally much less flexible. During this session I will also include upper body and core strengthening practices. The sessions finish with a long guided relaxation in Constructive Resting Posture which helps release the psoas muscle.
